Innovative on display as Lenzing showcases TENCEL™ and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ at Fashion InStyle

Lenzing recently had the pleasure of participating in the Fashion InStyle fair in Hong Kong in April. Recognized as one of Asia’s largest hybrid fashion trade shows, the event provided a valuable platform for Lenzing to showcase its TENCEL™ and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibers in person and in action with various collections on display.

We sat down with Rex Mok, Global Director of Technical Marketing and Development at Lenzing, and Dennis Hui, Global Business Development Manager Denim at Lenzing, to delve deeper into Lenzing’s participation at Fashion InStyle and gain some insights into the latest trends for the textile sector.

Q: What was the overarching message Lenzing aimed to convey through its booth at Fashion InStyle?

Rex: Our main goal at Fashion InStyle was to connect with the like-minded people, industry partners and brands in attendance, and showcase our innovation in technology and application. We continuously seek opportunities like this to highlight Lenzing’s true appreciation for people and our connection to the natural world [1]. As the fair itself focused on innovation, technology, and upcycling, it was a perfect fit for our values.

Q: Did Lenzing showcase any innovations, collections, or partnerships at the booth?

Rex: Yes, we spotlighted our diverse fiber portfolio, including TENCEL™, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ with REFIBRA™ technology and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ black, for event-goers to learn about our biodegradable and compostable fiber offerings [2].

Dozens of inquiries we received focused on fabric sourcing, signaling a continuous interest in our responsible, resource-efficient materials [3] [4] – among which, we demonstrated the versatility of TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers in creating insulating, high-performance cold-weather outdoor wear.

In terms of collections, we showcased our Black Towel Collection made with LENZING™ ECOVERO™ branded black viscose fibers and TENCEL™ branded black modal fibers which use a resource-efficient spin-dyeing process that reduces 60% of carbon footprint compared to conventional dyeing methods [5].

We also displayed our recent denim co-creations that showcase our commitment to inspiring collaborations, such as our SAISEI collection with ROICA™ by Asahi Kasei and Kaihara, as well as our LoopTy collection in collaboration with Advance Denim and ROICA™ by Asahi Kasei. Our recent joint-development project with HKRITA also brought to life sporty fashion and advocated for the use of 100% natural materials [6] for sportswear.

Q: What notable trends or key takeaways emerged from Fashion InStyle this year?

Rex: The fair encompassed the entire supply chain, from spinning to garment making, and featured numerous start-ups innovating in materials and technology. We had the honor of connecting with visitors and brands from Australia, the Middle East, Thailand, and New Zealand, all of whom shared a common interest in finding a sustainable way forward for the fashion industry that doesn’t compromise on functionality. This was the perfect setting for us to share our vision and passion for textile solutions that respect both people and the planet with like-minded individuals. [1]

We’ve also seen innovative startups making strides in bacterial materials and lemongrass fibers, which is an exciting momentum in sustainable textile innovation across the region.

Q: From your perspective, what key insights did Lenzing gain from the event?

Dennis: We’ve long noticed that innovation is one of the most important engines for the textile industry. Innovation in raw materials with sustainable concepts and ingredients, together with advanced technologies, plays an important role in next-generation textiles. At Lenzing, care for nature is one of our guiding principles and our ultimate goal for the industry. As such, we work to continuously explore collaboration opportunities with our valued partners throughout the supply chain, striving to create more innovation based on market needs while guiding new generations towards sustainable goals.
